The company’s full name is DiMarzio Musical Instrument Pickups, Inc. It produces not only pickups but also other guitar related equipment such as straps, cables, and hardware. Although it is far more famous for its pickups than its ancillary items.

It was all the way back in 1973 that DiMarzio produced his first replacement guitar pickup – the Super Distortion model. This was probably the very first mass produced replacement guitar pickup on the market. Sure, other pickups were soon to follow, but this is still one of DiMarzio’s most popular models.

Many players demand higher electrical outputs from their instruments DiMarzio launched the Super Distortion Pickup. This gave a far higher electrical output than original equipment pickups. With twice the impedance of PAF type pickups coupled to stronger ceramic magnets enables the Super Distortion Pickup to drive roughly twice as much voltage as a PAF pickup. The guitar amplifier result is an easier to access overdriven distorted sound.
